Flipside

A split-flap board of the kind that used to hang in railway stations. Each minute the leaves drop through their half-turn, and the hour panel follows once an hour with the same mechanical stutter.

The uptime indicator borrows the same leaves, counting how long the machine has been running underneath the time.

The engine needs a graphics card that supports the system graphics API: Direct3D 12 on Windows, Metal on macOS, Vulkan on Linux. In practice this means two things:

  • a physical machine with a graphics card is required, a virtual one will not do;
  • on Linux the graphics drivers have to be installed and configured.
